Song of the Week: B.A.P One Shot

Today I’m choosing a song by B.A.P. Why? Because I am seeing them today! Eeeeeeep!!!!

One Shot is–and will probably always be–my favorite song by B.A.P. It’s not the first song I heard by them (that would be Stop It), but it’s the one that made me realize that I will always love these boys. Always. For like their entire existence and beyond.

Now, the first time I watched One Shot, I have to confess I was a little put off by the violence. I’m the biggest wimp when it comes to blood and gore. I had witnessed a bit of their penchant for the violent and dramatic when I first saw Rain Sound (which is still my second favorite song). but that song didn’t prepare me for the utter despair I felt upon watching One Shot for the first time.

Oh my gosh. If you’ve never seen it, spoiler ahead. The boys get shot!! A lot! I cried. Literally. A music video has never made me cry before. That’s when I knew I felt a little more for this group than normal “like” feelings.

But even without the drama of the music video, the song itself is a masterpiece. I never get tired of hearing it. It’s got all the requirements of a B.A.P song: Yongguk’s deep voice rapping in semi-English; Zelo’s higher-pitched almost nasally quick-fire delivery of his raps; Jongup singing what always happens to be my favorite part of the song (every song, it never fails); Youngjae’s beautiful, soothing voice; Himchan’s sexy, lower register; and Daehyun’s masterful high notes. But Daehyun is a stand-out in this song. I get goosebumps every time he hits the high note towards the end.  Perfection!

And the dance! The choreography is on point! It’s technically difficult, physically demanding, and so masculine. I especially love Zelo’s crazy jumping, crawly thingy he does (please let me know if there’s a term for that dance move. I don’t think “jumping, crawly thingy” is it.)

Here’s my favorite performance of One Shot on a music show. It perfectly showcases the whole group and lets you know just how talented they are.
