U-Kiss release their MV – Quit Playing – and I don’t know what to say…

U-Kiss is back! All grown up too! Their highly anticipated comeback music video has just been released and it’s…something.

The song is called Quit Playing, but from the looks of it, I don’t think these boys want to quit playing any time soon.

First off, I love this song! I really do. I am ridiculously addicted to it already. I hope it wins a ton of awards (the awards Stop Girl should have won! Yes, I’m bitter.).

But the MV? Well…

Check it out here. But be warned, it was given a 19+ for sexual situations. No nudity, unless you count shirtless men as nude, but lots of suggestiveness and writhing and such.

I don’t know why I’m struggling so much with this MV. I mean, I’m not a prude. Not at all. And the boys aren’t doing anything raunchy in the MV. I think the problem is they aren’t doing anything sexy either. At least not when they’re around the girls.

Not sexy
Not sexy

The video is sexual, but not sexy. Does that make sense? I mean, the boys are super sexy…when they get to be themselves, by themselves.

Sexy
Sexy

My biggest problem is with the boys when they are around the female back-up dancers. Those girls are unnecessary.

You can leave now, back-up dancer girls.
You can leave now, back-up dancer girls.

I know, that opinion is not new for me. I usually think girls are unnecessary, unless they’re acting in the video. I could appreciate that the lead actress is needed (or is it more than one actress? I couldn’t tell on first view, and didn’t care on second), though I don’t especially care for her.

But the back-up dancers? No. Not needed. They all are just so unimaginative. I don’t like back-up dancers in general, but I really despise one-on-one back-up dancers–when each boy has a girl to himself. It just drives me crazy because it looks so forced and awkward most of the time. And in this case, poor maknae looks super cringe-worthy holding his dancer. I felt uncomfortable just watching!

Poor little maknae

You know when I find the boys most sexy? When they’re away from the girls. During their own individual shots, the boys look gorgeous and masculine and like so much eye candy. Kiseop, for one, gives good face (and his bedroom eyes–aagh!).

Yes, you are beautiful, Kiseop.
Yes, you are beautiful, Kiseop.

But the boys when they are with the dancers? Yawn.

I think I’m just tired of the “sexy” concepts we’ve been bombarded with lately. Almost all the girl groups have been doing it and winning awards because of it. It was inevitable that a boy group would follow suit.

And it’s not the first time boys have done sexy. I get that. A.D.T.O.Y. by 2PM and Smoky Girl by MBLAQ are just two examples in which the sexy concept (and with girls even!) recently worked.

And anytime an idol winks, does the lip rub, does a body roll, does a belt tug, or smolders into the camera, he’s summoning the sexy. I get that. And I appreciate that. See? I’m not a prude.

The lip rub, as perfected by Eli.

Shoot. Kai from EXO could just stand there and the sexy would be oozing. And I would applaud like a trained seal!

But the thing is, in this video, they use the women for the sexy. Women are the ones writhing around and shaking their flat butts. And I was just sort of unimpressed by the whole thing.

Nope.
Nope.

And I know. I know. You don’t have to come at me with the “but you had to know it was gonna be sexy after the 19+ it was given.” I realize that. I’m not shocked that it is “sexy.” I knew it was gonna try to be. I’m shocked because it isn’t sexy. It is sexual, and in your face, but it isn’t sexy. It’s forced and uncomfortable.

Even the three-way isn’t all that sexy because that darn girl is in the way again. Just joking.

Move, girl.
Move, girl.

No, really I’m not.

Ok, really. Get OUT of the shot, girl.

But, I will admit to replaying (more than a few times) Kiseop pulling off his shirt. Now THAT was sexy!

You go, Kiseop.
You go, Kiseop.

Anyway, the best thing about the MV? Kevin’s gray/silver hair. Yes! I’m a fan of that color on every idol who’s had it. Good job, hair people!

Another good thing? Eli in that suit. Yes please.

And another good thing? Kiseop. Always and forever.

And one more good thing? The new maknae member Jun is adorable AND has a good voice! I hope the inevitable controversy over the MV won’t overshadow his debut. I really like what I see of him so far.

Jun is such a cutie!
Jun is such a cutie!

Bad thing about the MV? I think management is trying too hard. I know the boys have yet to win a music show award after 6 years (!) and they really deserve to, but I don’t know if this will do it for them. It’s shocking for the sake of shocking, which is ultimately boring and unimaginative.

Another really bad thing? The boys coming on to the girl while she pushes away is borderline harassment. No means no, people. And if this girl doesn’t really mean “no”, then stop playing games, girl. Because boys are gonna think, “Hey, I got this girl after she said ‘no’ by being persistent. That means other girls don’t really mean ‘no’ when they say it either!” No. Just no.

No means no, boys.
No means no, boys.

Another bad thing? Too many girls in the MV. I want to swoon over the boys without some girl getting in the way. Is that too much to ask for?

And another? That leg spread move thing towards the end. What is that?! The boys open their arms wide, commanding the women sitting on the ground to spread eagle. Wow.

Eww.
Eww.

Worst thing? Eli apparently smoking at the end of the MV. Really? Is that supposed to be sexy? Because it isn’t. Smoking is the very opposite of sexy. Sorry.

No, Eli. Not sexy.
No, Eli. Not sexy.

What did you think of the MV? Am I being too harsh? Did you find it sexy? Would you want a new video of just the boys without the girls, like I would? Let me know!
